Memorial Drive at DeKalb History Center Museum
Explore the history and evolution of one of metro Atlanta’s most dynamic corridors through photography, objects and storytelling.
Memorial Drive at DeKalb History Center Museum
Trace the transformation of one of metro Atlanta’s most important corridors in this visually rich exhibition. Memorial Drive explores how a roadway originally designed to connect the State Capitol to a major Confederate monument has evolved into a vibrant, multicultural hub of daily life.
Through contemporary photography by Peter Essick and gathered objects from local businesses, the exhibit offers a layered look at the people and places that define Memorial Drive today. Visitors can explore stories of growth, change and community while learning how and why the corridor came to be.
Essick’s work, informed by decades of experience with National Geographic, brings an environmental and documentary eye to the corridor, revealing both the human impact of development and the enduring character of the land.
The exhibit is located on the first floor of the Historic DeKalb Courthouse.
